Bernie Sanders advocates for a single-payer healthcare system: 3 things to know

United States senator Bernie Sander (I-VT) said he would like the country to adopt a "Medicare-for-all" healthcare system, known as a single-payer system, according to a CNN report.

Here are three things to know:

1. Comparing the country to other industrialized nation, Mr. Sanders told "This Week" that we are "spending almost twice as much per capita on healthcare as do the people of any other country," and pointed out that we are the only major country which does not guarantee healthcare to everybody as a right.

2. Mr. Sanders also stated a single-payer system should be the goal, but recognized it will not happen in the immediate future.

3. According to a CNN/WMUR New Hampshire Primary poll, Hilary Clinton is holding on to an 8-point lead over Sanders, with 35 percent supporting Mr. Sanders and 43 percent supporting Mrs. Clinton.
