95% of health organizations do not operate at peak digital efficiency — 4 points

A study conducted by Fard Johnmar, a digital health strategist and founder and president of digital health consultancy Enspektos, found only five percent of health organizations are operating at the highest level of digital health innovation proficiency and expertise, as reported by EE Times.

The study looked at the tools and actions used on a daily basis, measuring not just data and analytics, but also the human challenges, to discover what effects digital health has had so far in such fields as big data, wearables, social media and mobile.

Here are four points:

1. Mr. Johnmar found a low level of innovation in relatively mature areas like social media and mobile, but a very active experimentation in wearables, a relatively new field.

2. Among health organizations that are actively experimenting with digital technologies, the majority are in the pilot testing and experimentation phase, and lack the expertise and budgetary resources to implement and scale these innovations optimally.

3. Mr. Johnmar estimates about 90 percent of connected healthcare will occur outside the clinic or hospital setting.

4. The populations who will benefit the most from digital healthcare are the elderly, recluses and the rural poor.
