Curry Outpatient Surgery Center (Brookings, Ore.).
The Curry Outpatient Surgery Center is a Brookings Ambulatory Surgery Center, and part of a national network of surgery centers. The multispecialty surgery center hosts orthopedics, otolaryngology, urology, podiatry, neurosurgery and ophthalmology, in addition to other procedures. The surgery center serves patients in rural areas of the state.

Marietta (Ohio) Surgical Center.
Marietta Surgical Center is located in a semi-rural area and was founded in 1999. It was the first and remains the only surgery center in the area. The two-operating room joint venture surgery center took on Regent Surgical Health as minority owner in 2005, and the company helped turnaround the facility. The surgery center includes five orthopedic surgeons and seven physician owners. Now, the surgeons perform around 1,000 cases per year.

Mifflin County Surgical Center (Lewistown, Pa.).
Physicians petitioned the state of Pennsylvania to build a surgery center to address high cost and low quality of care issues in the area in 1995. The certificate of need was granted and Mifflin County Surgical Center was opened in 1998. The surgery center is focused on ophthalmology procedures and surgeons perform LASIK eye surgery there. The surgery center is accredited from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and Medicare approved. The Center for Eye Care also includes two clinical offices.

Omak (Wash.) Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Omak Clinic, which includes an ambulatory surgery center, has a rural health distinction through Medicare and is a primary care giver to the Colville Confederated Tribes. The Clinic includes 14 physicians and three mid-level providers from Wenatchee Valley Medical Center. In addition to the ASC, the Omak Clinic includes a laboratory, radiology services, physical therapy and an anticoagulation clinic. Specialties treated include ophthalmology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology and orthopedics.

Paustian Medical & Surgical Center (Neillsville, Wis.).
David Paustian, MD, opened Paustian Medical & Surgical Center in rural Wisconsin to allow patients in the community more affordable rates for quality care. The surgery center opened earlier this year and is currently located at Living Well Health and Fitness Center, but plans are already underway for a new 10,000-square-foot facility to open in the spring of next year.

Prescott (Ariz.) Eye Care & Surgical Center.
Prescott Eye Care & Surgery Center includes cataract and glaucoma surgery as well as laser treatment. Surgeons are able to implant ReSTOR, the multi-focal intraocular lens for patients. The surgery center includes three physicians and LASIK surgical procedures. Prescott Eye Care Center also includes a full service optical shop.

Regional Ambulatory Surgery Center (St. Mary's, Pa.).
Regional Ambulatory Surgery Center was one of the first ASCs constructed in rural northwestern Pennsylvania. The surgery center is a member of Elk Regional Health System and provides a variety of services, including colonoscopies, glaucoma surgery, knee arthroplasty, carpal tunnel release, shoulder arthroplasty, eye tumor removal and hernia repair. Nine physicians perform cases at the multispecialty.

Southeastern Spine Institute Ambulatory Surgical Center (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.).
Donald Johnson, II, MD, founded a multidisciplinary spine practice that includes an ambulatory surgical center in rural South Carolina. Several patients travel long distances for care at the center, which is structured to provide several different services in one visit. Services include MRI, pain management, digital X-ray, physical therapy, in-house pharmacy, bracing and surgical intervention. The ASC is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and surgeons perform several procedures, including lateral access spine surgery, there.
