Novant Health, local physicians face off for CON
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health and a group of physicians both filed a certificate-of-need application to add a new operating room in Leland, N.C. However, the N.C. Department of Health Service Regulation can only grant one of those entities the CON.

Full ACA repeal could cost $350B

Medicare overpays 5 health plans by $128M in 2007; Only recovers $3.4M
In 2011, federal officials thought auditing private Medicare Advantage insurance plans allegedly overcharging the government for medical services would reap big savings for taxpayers. However, the audits painted a different story, showing Medicare overpaid health plans a significant chunk of money. A first round of audits uncovered Medicare overpaid five health plans by $128 million in 2007. CMS opted to settle the audits in 2012 for $3.4 million.

Physician, nurse organizations split on Trump's HHS pick Dr. Price
The medical community is divided on whether they support or oppose President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead HHS — Rep. Tom Price, MD (R-Ga.). The American Medical Students Association, Physicians for a National Health Program and National Nurses United oppose Mr. Trump's pick. While the Americans Medical Association released a statement almost immediately following the news, voicing the association's approval.

70% of medical groups 'concerned,' 'totally freaked out' over MACRA
An Advisory Board survey showed many medical groups are still apprehensive over CMS' Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. Of the 30 medical groups polled, 70 percent reported being "concerned" or "totally freaked out" over MACRA.
