Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for July 2, 2014.

9 legislators sign on to ASC Quality & Access Act.
More than 80 Ambulatory Surgery Center Association members attended the ASCA 2014 Capitol Fly-In event to advocate for the ASC industry. After the event, nine new co-sponsors were added to the ASC Quality & Access Act.

CMS now requires accrediting agencies to report ASC infection control breaches.
CMS mandated that any infection control breaches indentified during Medicare Deemed Status Surveys must be reported by the state survey agency or accreditation organization to the appropriate state authorities.

Exchange plan members could face hefty premium increases next year.
Consumers enrolled in exchange plans who receive federal assistance to reduce their monthly premiums may face substantial premium increases unless they switch insurance plans in 2015. Read the full report on Becker's Hospital Review.

Regent Surgical Health adds two new employees.
Regent Surgical Health has added two new employees: Lindsay Rinnan and Preeti Syal. Ms. Rinnan will serve as director of development and physician recruitment. Ms. Syal will serve as a senior financial analyst.

Memphis Gastroenterology Group, Gastro One merge.
Memphis Gastroenterology Group and Gastro One, both based in Germantown, Tenn., have merged. The group is now one of the largest physician practices in the Mid-South. In light of the merger, Memphis Gastroenterology group filed a certificate of need application to allow physicians from Gastro One to perform procedures at its endoscopy center.

ENTRUST adds Surgery Center Network to benefit plans.
Surgery Center Network, a comprehensive network of ambulatory surgery centers, has been added to third-party administrator ENTRUST's list of benefit plans. ENTRUST has been embedding SCN's services into its clients' benefit plans. Thus far, Berry Bros. General Contractors in Berwick, La., and O'Hair Shutters in Lubbock, Texas, have been the first ENTRUST clients to access SCN's services.

Spine & Pain Physicians Surgery Center opens.
The Spine & Pain Physicians Surgery Center opened in Smyrna, Tenn. The surgery center was founded by Graf Hilgenhurst, MD, an interventional pain medicine physician and anesthesiologist. Dr. Hilgenhurst will serve as the medical director of the surgery center, in addition to his role as medical director of Precision Pain Care
