Surgery Partners' IPO expected to reap up to $350M
Surgery Partners' is scheduled to go public this week and the company's initial public offering is expected to net between $300 million and $350 million.

Massachusetts General Hospital to pay record settlement over drug thefts
Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston agreed to pay $2.3 million to resolve allegations its lax drug supply controls permitting two nurses to steal approximately 15,921 pain pills between October 2011 and April 2015. The settlement is the largest amount ever paid to settle drug diversion allegations.

House Republicans advance legislation to dismantle the ACA
Republicans are using a special process preventing Senate Democrats from blocking the legislation. President Obama can veto the legislation, but the legislation could allow Republicans to dismantle the ACA if a Republican takes the White House in 2016.

CDC & FDA issues alert to healthcare facilities
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a health alert for facilities to review their procedures for device reprocessing. The alert advises providers and facilities to properly maintain, clean and disinfect or sterilize reusable medical devices.

Carolinas HealthCare Systems Blue Ridge breaks ground on new surgery center
Morganton, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare Systems Blue Ridge has broken ground on a new surgery center as part of their two-year project. The 27,952-square-foot facility entails updating several of the health system's existing operating rooms.

Majority of Americans oppose "Cadillac tax"
A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found 60 percent of Americans oppose the "Cadillac tax" with only 28 percent of Americans in favor of the tax.

The Joint Commission releases new sentinel event alert
The Joint Commission released a new sentinel event alert focusing on patient falls. The alert investigates the contributing factors to patient falls and has suggested solutions for healthcare organizations to help minimize patient falls.
