NueHealth acquires Blue Chip Surgical Partners
The two companies began the acquisition process last year and finalized the acquisition in January 2016. NueHealth is assuming full ownership of Blue Chip Partners and 11 of its ASCs, ranging in location from Southern California to Nebraska, Florida to Maryland. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Olympus of the Americas pays $646M settlement in kickback case
Olympus admitted to paying physicians and hospitals in the United States bribes to promote its medical devices. The company's United States unit agreed to pay $623.2 million in civil and criminal penalties in one of the largest settlements under the federal anti-kickback law.

Dr. Steven Meier performs 1st outpatient stem cell lumbar intradiscal injection
In conjunction with La Peer Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, Calif., orthopedic surgeon Steven Meier, MD, performed the first outpatient stem cell lumbar intradiscal injection and platelet rich plasma therapy for a patient with degenerative disc disease.

DePuy Synthes collaborates Value Stream Partners on bundled payments
DePuy Synthes entered into a strategic alliance with Value Stream Partners to design, develop and implement a bundled payment program for hip and knee replacements. The exclusive arrangement between DePuy Synthes and Value Stream Partners will be available to providers who want to bundle hip and knee replacements.

AmSurg net revenue reaches $704M
AmSurg reported its fourth quarter and 2015 financial results. Net revenues increased 21 percent to $704.3 million, compared to $581.8 million during the fourth quarter of 2014. AmSurg's full year net earnings from continuing operations attributable to AmSurg common shareholders were $154.9 million.

Another hospital employee exposes 200+ patients to HIV, hepatitis
Somers Point, N.J.-based Shore Medical Center sent letters to 213 patients who received intravenous morphine or hydromorphine medicines between June 1, 2013 and Sept. 17, 2014. Police allege former employee Frederick McLeish, who worked as a registered pharmacist at the hospital, was arrested in January following a yearlong investigation.

University of Minnesota Health opened Clinics and Surgery Center in Minneapolis
The new center has an ambulatory surgery center, equipped with 10 operating rooms. The outpatient center includes five stories. University of Minnesota Health can now handle double the amount the patients in the new outpatient center.
