Florida ASCs could begin to offer 23-hour stays.
New legislation (HB 999 and SB 1394) could allow ambulatory surgery centers in Florida to take on 23-hour stays. The legislation, introduced in Tallahassee, is sponsored by Representative Heather Fitzenhagen (R-78) and Senator Audrey Gibson (D-9). Florida has more than 400 ASCs.

SCA, The CORE Institute partner to open surgical hospital.
Surgical Care Affiliates, The CORE Institute and six independent physicians partnered to open a surgical hospital in Phoenix. The new specialty center will be named The CORE Institute Specialty Hospital. The hospital will be staffed by orthopedic surgeons who specialize in joint replacement, spine care, pain management, podiatry and more. The partnership aims to create a national model for specialty centers. SCA and The CORE Institute plan to expand their partnership on the national and local level.

Health IT market to grown 6%+ over next 4 years.
The use of information technology is seeing major growth in the U.S. healthcare industry, and it is no secret that health IT will form the foundation of value-based healthcare delivery. he healthcare IT market in the United States is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.01 percent from 2015 to 2019. A key market driver is increased adoption of mobile devices.

Physicians Endoscopy acquires PGC Endoscopy Center.
Physicians Endoscopy acquired a majority interest in Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants Endoscopy Center of Excellence. The center is Physician Endoscopy's 34th. The joint venture relationship was finalized on Jan. 31.

CBO cuts PPACA price tag estimate.
The Congressional Budget Office updated the baseline budget projections it published earlier in the year, and included in the changes is updated estimations of the budgetary effects of the major provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation currently project that PPACA provisions will result in $1.2 billion net cost to the federal government from 2016 to 2025, which is 11 percent less than the agencies estimated in January 2015.

Ohio ASC Association works with Bureau of Workers Comp on joint arthroplasty certification.
The Ohio Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers signed a contract with the Bureau of Workers Compensation to start a joint arthroplasty certification program for ambulatory surgery centers. The partnership hopes to develop a process and criteria for ASCs to be "additionally certified" to provide joint arthroplasty for BWC patients. OAASC also hopes to advance codes within a BWC setting to eventually improve BWC reimbursement for all procedures.

Brookside Surgery Center now offers a Navio orthopedic surgical system to help surgeons perform precise and accurate partial knee replacement surgeries. The Navio system helps Brookside Surgery Center offer its patients one of the most advanced surgical technologies in the Battle Creek, Mich., area.
