7 things for ASC leaders to know for Monday — June 22, 2015

Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for June 22, 2015.

1. Foundation HealthCare sells Heritage Park Surgical Hospital stake for $9.3M
Foundation HealthCare has sold its 20 percent stake in Heritage Park Surgical Hospital in Sherman, Texas, for $9.3 million. Foundation sold its share in the surgical hospital to Texas Health Venture Heritage Park, a joint enterprise of Baylor Hospital System, based in Dallas, and United Surgical Partners International.

2. House passes EHR Fairness Act
The Digestive Health Physicians Association has expressed its support of the Electronic Health Fairness Act, which was approved in the U.S. House of Representatives as a part of broader legislation, HR 2570, by voice vote. HR 2570, the Value Based Insurance Design for Better Care Act of 2015, directs HHS to develop a three-year demonstration program to test the use of value-based insurance methodologies. 3 NYU Langone acquires Long Island-based Huntington medical group
The agreement allows medical providers at both locations to adopt new trends focusing on local ambulatory care rather than hospital-based care. The acquisition was partly formed due to the increasing trend of New Jersey patients to seek care in New Jersey rather than New York.

4. Waterfont Surgery Center files form D for $212k in financing
Waterfront Surgery Center in Homestead, Pa., published form D for about $212,160 in equity financing, reports OctaFinance.com. Waterfront's fundraising still has about $212,160 to go, and is not currently closed, according to the report.

5. Rivanna Medical adds Dr. Rebecca Minehart as clinical advisor
Rivanna Medical appointed Rebecca D. Minehart, MD, as a clinical advisor.  Dr. Minehart is an assistant program director in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine Anesthesia Residency Program, as well as program director of the Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

6. Employee compromises 5,000 patients' data at UC Irvine Medical Center
University of California Irvine Medical Center is notifying nearly 5,000 patients that an employee inappropriately viewed their health records. The employee may have viewed patient information including names, birth dates, gender, medical record numbers, height, weight, medical center account numbers. 7. US relaxes Ebola screening for travelers from Liberia
The United States government is relaxing its enhanced Ebola entry screening and monitoring program for travelers from Liberia. There are currently no known cases of Ebola in Liberia, and the risk of Ebola for travelers returning from Liberia is now considered low. However, certain measures will still be followed, including taking travelers' temperatures and asking them questions about travel history and possible exposures to Ebola.
