Florida Gov. Rick Scott signs healthcare transparency bill
Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed House Bill 1175, which seeks to create more transparency about healthcare costs. Effective July 1, the bill creates a website that allows consumers to obtain a price estimate for the entire episode of care at an ASC or hospital.  

Tenet senior strategic advisor Reginald Ballantyne III to leave in June
Tenet Healthcare senior strategic advisor Reginald M. Ballantyne III is ending his career at the company on June 30.  In 2013, Mr. Ballantyne played an essential, "behind the scenes" role in expanding the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.

Orthopaedic Institute for Children holds ribbon-cutting for new pediatric orthopedic ASC: 4 highlights
Los Angeles-based Orthopaedic Institute for Children held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new ASC. The 13,000-square-foot ASC holds two operating rooms and six pre- and post-surgical suites.

MPIRICA Health adds 1M+ outpatient quality scores
Healthcare startup MPIRICA Health is launching more than one million outpatient quality scores.  This is the first time a company has launched any objective surgeon and hospital scoring for outpatient procedures.

Patient dies after jumping from window at Florida hospital
Police are investigating the death of a Winter Haven (Fla.) Hospital patient who died Saturday after jumping from a window on the hospital's third floor. The patient jumped from the window in his room, and was pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m.

Congressional investigation reports an increase in scope infections
After a year-long investigation, the FDA found tainted scopes may have infected as many as 350 patients at 41 facilities in the United States and overseas. Investigators linked Olympus America's TJF-Q180V duodenoscope to a carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae outbreak at Los Angeles-based Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center between October 2014 and January 2015.
