Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for June 23, 2014.

76% of physicians who experienced decreased income plan to leave private practice.
Three quarters of physicians, 76 percent, who had an income decrease in the last year said they would not remain in private practice because overhead costs were too high, according to a Jackson Healthcare report. On the other hand, of those physicians who experienced an increase in pay 91 percent say they will be practicing medicine this year.

CBO: PPACA still to generate $124B in savings.
In response to an inquiry from Congress, the Congressional Budget Office has reiterated its March 2010 projection that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will reduce federal budget deficits by a total of $124 billion from 2010 to 2019 and by approximately one-half of 1 percent of gross domestic product during the following decade. 10% of Americans have proficient level of health literacy.
Only about one in 10 people in the United States have a proficient level of health literacy, meaning they can understand and use health-related information in daily activities, according to Kaiser Health News report. Read the full report on Becker's Hospital Review.

Walla Walla Clinic ASC adds general surgeons.
Walla Walla (Wash.) General Hospital and Walla Walla Clinic have collaborated to bring two of the hospital's general surgeons to the clinic's ambulatory surgery center. Scott Newbold, MD, and Daryl Reid, MD, will begin performing procedures at the Walla Walla Clinic ASC in August. Both surgeons will also maintain their hospital-based practices.

Kaiser ASCs win 'green' award.
The Eye Surgery Center, in Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Kaiser Ambulatory Surgery Unit in Folsom, Calif., received "partner recognition" awards from Practice Greenhealth. The awards are granted to healthcare facilities that have a 10 percent or greater waste recycling rate. Both ASCs are affiliated with Kaiser Permanente.

Brier Creek ASC trials fluid management system.
Brier Creek Ambulatory Surgery Center in Raleigh, N.C., will trial Skyline Medical's STREAMWAY Fluid Waste Management System. The FDA-cleared fluid disposal system is designed to eliminate staff exposure to blood and irrigation fluid. The system fully automates the process of collecting, measuring and disposing of waste fluids.

Surgery Center of Oklahoma featured in Forbes for healthcare innovation.
Surgery Center of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City was featured in a Forbes article titled "What Uber and Apple Can Teach Us About Fixing Health Care," by contributor Glenn Tullman. The article names the surgery center as an early innovator in price transparency.
