Yorkville Endoscopy could retain CMS certification.
Yorkville Endoscopy, the New York surgery center thrust into the spotlight in connection with comedienne Joan Rivers' death, has been given until March 2 to comply with changes requested by CMS. CMS initially decided to revoke certification in mid-January, but has now reversed its decision, allowing more time for the center to correct deficiencies.

AmSurg acquires radiology services business.
Sheridan, now the physician services division of AmSurg, has acquired the radiology services business Radisphere. Radisphere, which has offices in Ohio and Connecticut, is a group of more than 100 radiologists. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Bill requiring payers to cover CRC screening introduced in Kentucky house.
A bill addressing colorectal cancer screening coverage has been introduced in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Bill HB69 15RS would "require health benefit plans to cover colorectal cancer screening regardless of the billing code or other procedure performed in the same clinical encounter and as part of ongoing prevention.

Surgical checklists may not be effective.
Checklists are often used in healthcare settings, like operating rooms, to try to prevent adverse patient events like surgical site infections or wrong-site surgery. But checklist-based quality improvement initiatives may not be effective at achieving that goal, according to a study published in JAMA Surgery. Read the full report on Becker's Hospital Review. 

IT departments struggle with ICD-10 deadline.

11 new flu deaths reported.  
The U.S. continues to see elevated levels of the flu, and 11 new pediatric flu deaths were reported during the week ending Jan. 17, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read the full report on Becker's ASC Review.

New surgery center to open in Coppell.
Coppell, Texas, will have a surgery center by the end of February. Integrity Wellness Center, a 5,600-square-foot surgical center, will specialize in outpatient procedures, GI, pain mitigation and orthopedic care.
