Oregon representative reaffirms ASC industry support.
Oregon House Majority Leader Val Hoyle (D-14) reaffirmed her support of the ambulatory surgery center industry. Representative Hoyle spoke at the 2014 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show sponsored by the Oregon Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

Northstar Healthcare 3Q revenue up 125%.
Northstar Healthcare reported its third quarter financial results. The company reported $17.2 million in net patient service revenue, up 125 percent from $7.6 million in the third quarter of 2013. Northstar reported 1,649 cases for the quarter, up 22.7 percent from the 1,344 cases performed in the prior year's period.

CMS to reimburse $502 for Cologuard.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued its final payment decision for Exact Sciences' FDA-approved noninvasive stool DNA colorectal cancer screening test Cologuard. CMS will reimburse providers $502 per test. The payment decision follows a joint FDA and CMS review pilot program. Cologuard became the first technology to gain approval through this process.

Payers list of in-network physicians often outdated.

Journal of Patient Safety center of conflict-of-interest scandal.
The Journal of Patient Safety found conflicts of interest in articles written by its previous editor, Charles Denham, MD, many of which were undisclosed. The finding is another in the line of troublesome allegations against Dr. Denham, who was involved in a $40 million Justice Department kickback settlement for receiving payments from CareFusion, announced in January of this year.

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to open new surgery center.
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of Miami plans to open a 20,000-square-foot medical complex and surgery center in Naples, Fla. The facility is expected to open in June 2015. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute expects the facility, when fully operational, to have a $20 million annual economic impact on Southwest Florida.
