7 Statistics on Physician Pay by Practice Setting

Physicians in office-based, single specialty group practice earn the highest pay as compared to physicians in other practice settings, according to the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2014.


The report includes responses from more than 24,000 physicians in 25 specialties.

Here is the compensation earned by physicians in the following seven practice settings, according to the report:

•    Office-based, single specialty group practice — $273,000
•    Healthcare organization — $267,000
•    Hospital — $262,000
•    Office-based multispecialty group practice — $260,000
•    Office-based solo practice — $222,000
•    Academic, research, military or government institutions — $198,000
•    Outpatient clinic — $189,000
