Here are six ways:

1. Find out the facts.
2. Discuss your plan of action with the ultimate decision-maker, if you are not the person with final say.
3. Prepare talking points for the discussion.
4. Don't engage in an argument or allow yourself to become derailed.
5. Remain calm and take your time.
6. Base your decision on the facts and circumstances of the specific case.
