5 ways physicians can strengthen their relationship with patients

The transition to value-based care will take patient satisfaction scores increasingly into account. U.S. News & World Report provides physicians key ways to bolster their relationship with patients.

Here are five ways:

1. Review the patient's medical record prior to sitting down with the patient.

2. Maintain eye contact and greet patients warmly.

3. Provide patients an overview of the appointment. If you only have 15 minutes for the appointment, tell your patient you have this time available and open the floor for them to discuss pressing concerns.

4. Go through your patients' concerns, and ask them for a copy of their concerns if they have a hard copy of a list. Ensure the patient writes permission for you to scan the paper for the medical record.

5. Ask the patient to book a double appointment if additional time is needed.
