5 things to know about resident bullying in healthcare: Who are the culprits?

Resident bullying is an issue prevailing in healthcare, according to Medscape's "Residents Lifestyle and Happiness Report 2017."

Here are five things to know:

1. Overall, 22 percent of residents reported they are often or occasionally bullied.

2. Forty percent reported bullying was rare.

3. Of those polled, 37 percent said they never experienced bullying.

4. Among those who do the bullying, 56 percent were attendings and 46 percent were nurses.

5. Residents said 38 percent of the bullies were senior residents and 27 percent were other residents or their peers.
