5 things to know about Obama nominating Andy Slavitt as CMS administrator

President Obama nominated Andy Slavitt as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Slavitt joined CMS last year to help combat problems to the HealthCare.gov website.

2. He took over as administrator since Marilyn Tavenner's resignation earlier this year.

3. Mr. Slavitt served as group executive vice president for Optum, a clinical, technological and operations solutions focused subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group from 2012 to 2014.

4. He was CEO of the Consumer Solutions Group at UnitedHealth Group from 2004 to 2005.

5. Mr. Slavitt obtained a B.A. and B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his M.B.A from Harvard Business School.
