4 OSHA Requirements For Employee Safety With Regard to Radiology

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has certain precautions it requires practices to take with regard to employee safety with regard to radiology, and failing to follow these precautions could result in OSHA penalties, according to an email news release by DoctorsManagement.

The report also details some of the precautions OSHA requires practices to take:

1. Display a sign with the universal symbol for radiation on the door of the radiation area and on the x-ray machine itself.
2. Provide lead-lined personal protection equipment for staff and patients to use as required by the particular situation.
3. Properly store personal protective equipment so it is laying flat or hanging it when not in use. It should never be folded as it will become damaged and will no longer offer protection.
4. In some settings, employees should wear a radiation badge, also called a dosimeter. The clip-on badge is used to measure the amount of radiation in that specific location.
