3 Focus Areas for Developing the Clinical Environment for New Services

At the 11th Annual Spine, Orthopedic & Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference June 13, Linda Lansing, senior vice president of clinical services and training at Surgical Care Affiliates, discussed developing the right clinical environment for complex spine and orthopedic cases.

Ms. Lansing described three focus areas of developing the environment for a new service line, each with three key components:

1. Creating the right setting.

•    Is the facility ready?
•    Is the surgeon ready?
•    Is the patient ready?

2. Ensuring teammate competence.

•    Selecting the team
•    Educating the team
•    Developing a culture of safety

3. Delivering great results.

•    Quality metrics
•    Patient satisfaction score and response rate
•    Regulatory and accreditation performance
