3 Common Mistakes for Staff Retention
Nicola V. Hawkinson, DNP, MA, RNFA, NP, CEO and founder of SpineSearch, warns of the following three mistakes commonly made when organizations retain staff.
1. Assuming high potentials are highly engaged. New employees must be embraced, trained and integrated into the business plan of your practice. Highly engaged individuals can quickly become disengaged and stagnant without the right stimulation from employers.
2. Equate current high performance with future potential. High functioning administrators and clinicians can lose initiative in a stagnant environment. Staff must be continuously educated and engaged in practice business.
3. Expect star employees to share the pain. Even the best of employees may not be willing to share the pain of a struggling business. Remember, it is your business! Employees should not be expected to go without pay, vacation or other benefits.
