165k+ healthcare apps changing healthcare delivery: 5 observations

More than 165,000 healthcare smartphone apps are available for download, according to ABC News.

The IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics released a report on healthcare apps.

Here are five observations:

1. About 36 of these apps tend to attract the most users, and make up nearly half of all downloads, according to an IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics report.

2. The report suggests that many health apps are overlooked due to the apps' inadequate research or lack of data protection.

3. The apps available on iPhones increased twofold in the past two years, now totaling 90,000.

4. MyFitnessPal's Calorie Counter and Endomondo exercise tracker top the list as most popular apps, with more than 10 million downloads each.

5. Murray Aitken, the Institute's executive director, said healthcare apps are weaving their way into patients' normal health routines.
