Q: Our physicians are considering selling part of our ASC to a management company or hospital. What financial information must we know about our operations before exploring such arrangements further?
Chris Suscha: Understand what affects selling price. Take an honest assessment of your facility in terms of historical cash flow, growth potential (recruitment opportunity), partnership stability and payor mix (in-network vs. out-of-network). ASCs are valued on a multiple of EBITDA; therefore, demonstrating that the center has a solid track record, from a historical perspective, and can sustain future growth will ultimately drive value for its shareholders.
