Symbion Reports 20% Increase in Revenue, Reduces Loss

Symbion has reported a 20 percent increase in revenue for the second quarter of 2010, according to the company's SEC filing and a Nashville Post report.

The number of cases performed at the company's same-store facilities dropped 1.6 percent over the same period a year ago, while net patient service revenue per case grew 1.4 percent.

Symbion reported an overall $1.1 million loss for the quarter, down from $1.9 million in the same period a year ago.

The overall case mix for its centers saw some changes this quarter over the prior year period. GI is up almost 0.9 percent, and orthopedics increased 0.8 percent. Ophthalmology dropped 0.5 percent and pain management declined 0.3 percent. For the six month period ending June 30, GI is up 1.5 percent over the prior six month period, and pain management is down 1.3 percent.

Symbion reported that approximately 97 percent of its revenues are patient service revenues. Sixty-nine percent of its patient service revenues for the quarter came from private insurance, with 25 percent from government payors and five percent from self-pay.
