Providence Alaska is seeking state approval to construct an outpatient surgery center, most likely in one of the medical buildings surrounding Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Wasilla, Alaska, according to a Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman report.
Bruce Lamoureux, CEO for the Providence Alaska region, said the system will submit a certificate of need application, which is required in Alaska for projects over $1.35 million. If the project clears the CON process, construction could begin in 2013 or early 2014.
The facility is expected to have three pre-operative, seven post-operative and two operating rooms. Mr. Lamoureux said the facility could be beneficial to the region because procedures performed in an outpatient facility are generally cheaper than those performed in a hospital.
