NYC ASC plans to double — 6 takeaways

Ambulatory Surgery Center of Western New York has filed plans to double the size of its surgery center at a new $4.75 million facility, according to the Buffalo Business Journal.

Here are six takeaways:

1. The new facility will be housed in a shut-down Catholic elementary school that closed its doors in June 2014.

2. Attorney Edward Cosgrove represents the surgery center and its physician owners and negotiated the contract with the Diocese of Buffalo.

3. Both the surgery center and the vacated school will work together in the future, with the surgery center parking lot being made available to parishioners attending weekend services.

4. According to the administrator for the center, JoAnn Vecchio, the current building size cannot accommodate the new Department of Health space requirements for mechanicals and medical gases.

5. The new site will feature six operating rooms, three procedure rooms, a centrally located waiting area and more storage space.

6. This current expansion is part of several surgery center projects taking place in the region. Some of these other centers are the Premier Ambulatory Surgery Center in Hamburg and the Eastern Niagra Hospital in Niagra County.
