Northfield Hospital & Clinics considers ASC location — 4 takeaways

Farmington, Minn.-based Northfield Hospital & Clinics is considering building its new ambulatory surgery center in Lakeville, Minn., according to www.northfieldnews.com.

Here are four takeaways:

1. On Sept. 13, NH&C CEO Steve Underdahl presented updates to a Northfield City Council about the surgery center, noting the project is in its preliminary stages.

2. While the hospital is awaiting project advisers, the Northfield City Council asked Mr. Underdahl to begin looking into possible surgery center locations.

3. Lakeville may be a promising location as the area's population is underserved with nearly 65,000 citizens lacking access to a nearby hospital. NH&C operates a family health medical clinic in Lakeville, but residents do not have access to surgical services.

4. In 2015, the hospital had CliftonLarsonAllen conduct a feasibility study for the surgery center, which found the project was feasible. Mr. Underdahl, however, said the ASC was not a "sure thing."
