A new, multi-specialty ambulatory surgical center (ASC) opens its doors to patients this week, bringing state-of-the-art outpatient capabilities to the greater Mt. Pleasant area.
The new ASC is a joint venture between MidMichigan Health, eleven local physicians, and Regent Surgical Health, a national surgery center management and development company.
The new, 12,000-square-foot Mt. Pleasant Surgery Center is the first outpatient surgery center in Michigan’s Isabella County. It was specifically designed as an alternate site of care for outpatient surgeries. It opens with one operating room and two procedure rooms, with the capacity to expand up to four operating rooms.
The center’s eleven surgeons are board certified in their specialties, which include spine and pain; urology; gynecology; general surgery; ear, nose and throat; and orthopedics. By the end of 2017, the Center will offer total joint replacement surgery for patients who meet the requirements of an outpatient procedure. As partners in the surgery center, the physicians have a voice in administration and medical policy, which helps them ensure excellent quality care for their patients.

Pleasant Surgery Centers. “In the same time that a doctor might be able to do four surgeries in a hospital, they could do six in a surgery center. This not only makes the doctor more productive, but also results in a lower cost for the patient. An added benefit of doing these procedures here is that it frees up the hospital operating rooms for more complex procedures, enabling both locations to treat patients sooner.”

Mt. Pleasant Surgery Center is a key health resource within the 128,000-square-foot MidMichigan Medical Center – Mt. Pleasant, which reopened on Feb. 1 with expanded services in a new building quadruple the size of the previous MidMichigan Health Park. In addition to the ASC, the new facility has the necessary imaging and laboratory services to support the surgery center and also includes a 24-hour Emergency Department and a wide range of other frequently requested services, including pharmacy, radiology, and physician offices.
