Green Mountain Surgery Center decision faces another delay: 5 key points

The Green Mountain Care Board said it has to postpone its decision about Green Mountain Surgery Center until the board appoints new members, according to Burlington Free Press.

Here are five key points:

1. A decision was set for early July following a final public hearing in April.

2. The board pushed this date back after three board members failed to reach a consensus over the certificate-of-need application.

3. Several months ago, two board members left, leaving the board with three members. Five board members comprise the Green Mountain Care Board.

4. Amy Cooper, a principle of the ASC proposal, told Burlington Free Press, "This has been a very long process already." The surgery center's proponents have waited for a decision since filing the CON nearly two years ago.

5. Opponents include Vermont Association of Hospitals, claiming the ASC will boost costs and provide unnecessary duplicate services.
