Drew Memorial Hospital, in Monticello, Ark., spent a good amount of their Board of Directors meeting discussing a new surgery center, according to MyMonticellonews.net.
Here are five key notes:
1. Plans for a surgery center were in discussion for years, and are coming back under current CEO Scott Barrilleaux.
2. The architecture's original proposal, which included a six suite OR and a labor and delivery unit, put the cost of the structure over $25 million, and was asked to lower the plans to $19 million.
3. Michelle Pittman, MD, and other surgeons with the hospital had concerns, saying the four ORs would need a dedicated caesarian section.
4. Board member Carl Lucky does not believe it makes sense to scale down to a $19 million version of the project.
5. No decision has been made on the surgery center as of yet.
