Development agency approves financial incentive for Westmoreland ASC project

The Oneida County Industrial Development Agency has approved a financial incentive package requested for the Westmoreland (N.Y.) ambulatory surgery center project, according to a Rome Sentinel report.

The surgery center, proposed by eight surgeons and Oneida (N.Y.) Healthcare Center, will focus on orthopedics. The project is estimated to cost $7.5 million. The incentive package will offer partial property tax abatement for five years, as well as sales tax and mortgage recording tax exemptions.

The development agency board members unanimously voted to offer the incentive package because the new surgery center will offer residents services that are not generally available, according to the report.

Though the New York State Department of Health approved the center's certificate of need this spring, Rome (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital continues to voice strong opposition.

The agency is also considering offering the Omni Outpatient Surgery Center project in Kirkland, N.Y., an incentive package.
