AmSurg Q1 net earnings hit $28.6M, SCA acquires 3 facilities in Q1 & more — 5 key notes on ASC companies

Here are five updates on ASC companies from the last week.

AmSurg’s net earnings attributable to AmSurg common shareholders reached $28.6 million during the first quarter of 2016.

In the first quarter, Surgical Care Affiliates acquired three new facilities, all of which are consolidated. The company exited two managed-only facilities. Since the first quarter ended, SCA added five new facilities with two consolidated and three managed-only, while only exiting one managed-only facility.

Tenet Healthcare’s uncompensated care cost was $1.309 billion and $1.236 billion in the first quarters of 2016 and 2015, respectively. This figure is comprised of $933 million and $873 million, respectively, of charity care write-offs and uninsured discounts.

During a recent earnings call, Surgery Partners CEO Mike Doyle and Executive Vice President and CFO Teresa Sparks spoke about the company’s first quarter financial results. Surgery Partners is expanding spine, total joint replacement and cardiovascular service lines, with more than 20 facilities now including outpatient joint replacement procedures.

During the week of May 2 to May 6, Hospital Corporation of America shares traded at $80.81 per share, up 0.2 percent.
