9 new physicians to buy into expanded Buffalo Surgery Center: 5 things to know

Buffalo Surgery Center will be moving to a new, larger location in Amherst, N.Y., and the center is attracting new physician ownership, according to a Buffalo Business First report.

Here are five things to know about the surgery center and its new partners.

1. Excelsior Orthopaedics performs the majority of procedures at Buffalo Surgery Center. The new facility will be 27,175 square feet, according to the report. The facility will be three times larger than the existing surgery center space.

2. The groundbreaking for the new center was held in July. The facility could be completed as early as January 2016.

3. Once construction on the center is completed, nine new physicians will purchase a 49.96 percent ownership stake in the ASC, according to the report. The transaction is valued at $1.2 million.

4. The new ASC will host gastroenterology procedures in addition to orthopedics. Physicians affiliated with Buffalo Medical Group will perform the GI procedures. Four GI physicians and four colorectal surgeons will join the center as owners, according to the report.

5. The center will have a total of 18 owners, each holding a 5.5 percent stake in the surgery center, according to the report.
