Here are eight statistics on Medicare payments to ambulatory surgery centers between 2004 and 2011, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.  
Medicare payments:

•    In 2004: $2.5 billion
•    In 2005: $2.7 billion
•    In 2006: $2.8 billion
•    In 2007: $2.9 billion
•    In 2008: $3.1 billion
•    In 2009: $3.2 billion
•    In 2010: $3.3 billion
•    In 2011: $3.5 billion
