Here are four things to know:

1. Las Vegas-based Children's Specialty Center of Nevada is opening the Pediatric Palliative Care Clinic.

2. Kathleen Gates, MD, and  Angela Berg, DNP, APRN, CPNP, will run the program. Dr. Gates is the sole physician in the state with extensive experience in pediatric palliative and pediatric hospice care.

3. The clinic will provide care to children with or without medical insurance whether or not their family can pay for the care.

4. "This underserved area of pediatric care is often misunderstood, even by those in the medical community," said Angela Berg, DNP, CPNP. "Having a child with complex medical issues is often overwhelming for parents and these special kids. The palliative program will offer the child and family the support they need."
