2 North Carolina surgery centers compete for CON approval: 5 points

Indian Trail, N.C.-based Union West Surgery Center and Presbyterian SameDay Surgery Center-Monroe (N.C.) submitted competing certificate-of-need proposals to add an additional operating room, according to The Stanly News and Press.

Here are five points:

1. The ASCs submitted their proposals to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

2. Union West Surgery Center seeks to add a third OR.

3. The OR costs $4.1 million overall and Union West expects to complete construction in March 2019, if approved.

4. In its proposal, Presbyterian SameDay Surgery Center-Monroe wants to add one OR and one procedure room for a nearly $8.55 million total cost. The surgery center aims to complete the additions in April 2019, if approved.

5. Union County will hold public hearings for the proposals on July 17.
