10 Hospitals & Health Systems Recently Opening & Planning Surgery Centers

Here are 10 hospitals that have recently announced newly opened or planned ambulatory surgery centers.



Affiliated Community Medical Center in Wilmar, Minn., has broken ground on the 10,000-square-foot ACMC Marshall (Minn.) Surgery Center. The center is expected to reach completion in the fall of 2014.

Beloit Health System has announced plans to add a 19,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center to the NorthPointe Health & Wellness Campus in Roscoe, Ill. The center will have the potential for 12,000 square feet of expansion.

The Connecticut Children's Medical Center has plans to build a 17,000-square-foot pediatric and neonatal care ambulatory surgery center in Farmington, Conn. The project will be funded in part by a $750,000 pledge from Disney and ESPN.

Harris Health has opened a $63 million, 80,000-square-foot outpatient center next to its B. Johnson Hospital in Houston. The new facility includes a surgery center and many specialty services.

Johnson City (Tenn.) Medical Center has opened a $63 million surgery center. The facility includes 16 operating rooms and 48 pre- and postoperative patient bays.

Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Ill., has cut the ribbon on a $4.3 million, 10,000-square-foot surgery center.

Marshalltown (Iowa) Medical & Surgical Center has announced plans for the construction of a $35 million, 75,000-square-foot facility that will house a four-operating room surgery center, an urgent care clinic and additional services.  

MetroHealth and real estate management firm Signet Development plan to build an outpatient surgery center, emergency room and fitness center on a 52-acre piece of land in Brecksville, Ohio.

Olympic Medical Center is considering taking out a $20 million loan to finance an expansion project that includes a $9 million surgery in Sequim, Wash.  

St. Joseph Mercy Health System, based in Michigan, has plans to build a $30 million surgery center in Ann Arbor to compete with existing freestanding ASCs.
