For their study, researchers studied more than 25,000 patients who underwent surgery at a tertiary university hospital. They found in-hospital 30-day mortality significantly decreased after the implementation of the WHO surgical checklist. However, patient 30-day mortality was much lower in instances when there was complete surgical checklist compliance compared to instances when there was partial or no compliance.
