Skipping vaccines has costly repercussions on the US economy — 5 things to know

Adults who do not get vaccinated cost the U.S. economy billions of dollars, according to Houston Chronicle.

Researchers analyzed 10 optional vaccines for adults that prevent 14 different diseases.

Here are four things to know:

1. Last year, adults skipping vaccines cost the U.S. economy $8.95 billion.

2. The flu vaccine had the costliest repercussions, with the flu costing the United States $5.79 billion last year.

3. Following the flu, pneumonia was the second priciest disease, with researchers finding the disease cost $1.86 million lat year.

4. Herpes cost $782 million, HPV cost $333 million and Hepatitis B cost $173 million.
