Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, published a review with findings and recommendations for proper laundering and handling of healthcare fabrics and textiles.
Here are four things to know:
1. Analyses have identified inadvertent exposure of clean healthcare textiles to environmental contamination or a process failure during laundering.
2. Recommendations include adherence to standard precautions and minimal textile agitation.
3. Also, laundered healthcare textiles must be stored in a manner to keep them dry and free from soil contamination.
4. Authors of the review also recommend further research on the development of laundry processing in addition to current operations.
