PPAHS founder, contributors nominated for SafeCare Magazine's award: 5 observations

Michael Wong, JD, the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health Safety founder and executive director, was nominated for SafeCare Magazine's Person of the Year for 2015.

Here are five observations:

1. The award honors those who work to improve patient safety.

2. Joe Kiani, founder of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation and CEO of Masimo, won the honor.

3. Surgeon Atul Gawande, MD, and Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, of Johns Hopkins Medicine, were also nominated for the award. Both physicians contribute to the PPAHS.

4. Dr. Gawande contributed to the creation of the PPAHS PCA Safety Checklist and Dr. Pronovost helped create the OB VTE Safety Recommendations.

5. The PCA Safety Checklist is a source for healthcare professionals that administer patients with opioid pain management. The OB VTE Safety Recommendations help maternal patients receive proper risk screening and venous thromboembolism care.
