Pennsylvania pushes insurance companies to focus on quality patient care: 5 notes

The Pennsylvania Department of Health envisions a healthcare system that prioritizes patient care, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Here are five notes:

1. This value-based approach asks insurers to provide money based on the level of patient treatment.

2. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is detecting how insurers are responding to the new initiative through a survey.

3.  The patient-centric goal strays away from the common strategy of paying based on the number of patients treated.

4. The health department encourages stronger communication between providers, to foster an environment focused on patients' needs.

5. The hope is that value-based insurance strategies will result in a healthier Pennsylvania population.
