Patient Safety Tool: NICE Updated Infection Control Guideline

Jaimie Oh -

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the United Kingdom offers free guidance on infection control, which has recently been updated since its last release in 2003.

The clinical guideline includes up-to-date evidence-based strategies on infection prevention and control in primary and community care settings, the risks of healthcare-associated infections, medical device safety, drug recommendations and more. For instance, the guidance recommends hands be decontaminated immediately before every episode of direct contact with patients and that this should now include aseptic procedures as well.
