Northbank Surgical Center, Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center receive patient safety honors

Two outpatient ambulatory surgery centers were recognized by the Oregon Patient Safety Reporting Program, according to a report in The Oregonian.

Both Northbank Surgical Center and Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center were honored by the Patient Safety Reporting Program, which aims to gather information and learn from patient harm events instead of just reporting numbers.

Both ASCs received the top award — Leading Participant Award — last month along with seven other healthcare facilities. The top award goes to organizations that investigate patient harms constantly and work to develop solutions to prevent them in the future. Then the organizations also share their findings to benefit organizations around the state.

Northbank Surgical Center has worked on patient safety efforts such as investigating defective instrumentation to launching a patient satisfaction program.

OOSC, a joint venture with Providence Health Service, works closely with the safety commission. Both surgery centers are members of the Oregon Ambulatory Surgery Center Association

There were a few other ASCs recognized for meeting or exceeding targets, including:

• Corvallis Clinic Surgery Center
• East Portland Surgery Center
• Slocum Surgery Center
• Northwest Ambulatory Surgery Center
• Oregon Endoscopy Center
• Oregon Surgicenter
• River Road Surgery Center
