North Carolina state officials reported the first death from West Nile this year, according to WRAL.com.
Here are four quick facts:
1. Officials did not discloses the age, gender and location of the individual who died from the virus.
2. West Nile can cause encephalitis, meningitis or meningoencephalitis.
3. The majority of individuals will not display any symptoms of the virus or will only experience mild, flu-like symptoms.
4. The majority of West Nile cases occur from August through October.
