Missouri police officer with flesh-eating infection discharged from hospital — 4 things to know

A police detective from Lee Summit who was diagnosed with a rare flesh-eating bacterial infection went home, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Here are four things to know:

1. The officer, Josh Ward, was diagnosed with necrotizing fascitis in mid-April.

2. He was in the intensive care unit for 77 days and underwent 24 surgeries as well as rehabilitation therapy.

3. Mr. Ward will continue physical therapy in an outpatient setting.

4. Approximately 40 members of the police department attended the celebration of his release.
