Minnesota experiences largest measles outbreak in 27 years: 5 takeaways

Throughout Minnesota, health officials have confirmed 41 measles cases, according to Star Tribune.

1. The Star Tribune reports this is the largest outbreak in Minnesota since 1990. That year, there were more than 450 cases.

2. Measles has primarily infected the state's Somali community, but recent cases are spreading into new parts of the state.

3. Officials said they are weighing the possibility of implementing mandatory isolation and quarantine requirements for some infected individuals if they are not avoiding public areas where they can infect others.

4. Most cases involve people without immunity protection. However, state officials confirmed two new cases where vaccinated people contracted measles

5. The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine offers 97 percent protection against the measles, according to the CDC.
