Intermountain Healthcare awarded for patient safety: 5 notes

The Patient Safety Movement Foundation honored Intermountain Healthcare with a patient safety award, according to an article on HJnews.com.

Here are five notes:

1. Intermountain Healthcare was named one of the top three national healthcare organizations to save the most lives through reducing adverse drug events by 10 percent in the last year.

2. The healthcare organization beat out 41 other healthcare organizations and more than 800 hospitals for the award.

3. Though the institution hoped to reduce ADEs by 7 percent, it reduced ADEs by 10 percent.

4. Robin Betts, Intermountain Healthcare's assistant vice president of quality and safety, said that data tracking of high risk medicines, barcode patient and medication matching and an improved infusion pump all helped reduce ADEs.

5. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Hospital Quality Institute in California also received recognition.
