Inovalon & University of Maryland enter partnership to address healthcare issues: 5 key notes

Inovalon, a technology company developing cloud data analytics in healthcare, will enter a partnership with The Center of Health Information and Decision Systems at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, to research digital solutions for healthcare.

Here are five key notes:

1. The partnership will address digital solutions for patient safety, healthcare quality, healthcare delivery efficiency and health disparity reductions.

2. Through a collaborative effort, Inovalon and CHIDS will use big data to research 'churning,' the involuntary movement of covered members from one health plan to another.

3. The organizations will also analyze Medicare Advantage plan performance, identifying which plans are more likely to improve in the CMS.

4. UMD added a course titled, "Big Data: Strategy, Management and Applications," to its offering.

5. Inovalon will be involved in the new course, providing an intern program for UMD graduate students to train under data scientists.

"With the support of Inovalon advanced analytics research team, we can gain meaningful insights into Commercial ACA and Medicare Advantage trends that can, in turn, be used to help health plans manage these large and growing population…," said Ritu Agarwal, MD, senior associate dean and co-director of CHIDS at Robert H. Smith School of Business.
