ICAAC teams up with ICC to prevent infections — 5 facts

Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and the International Congress of Chemotherapy are working on a program to enhance the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious disease around the world, according to Medscape.

Here are five facts:

1. The meeting will start on Sept. 17 and will last five days.

2. Researchers will focus on a new category of antimicrobial stewardship including how researchers manage the use of antimicrobials in the clinical setting.

3. The opening keynote address titled "The Enterococcus: A Tale of Survival and Success of a Second Rate Pathogen" will be given by Barbara Murray, MD, from the University of Texas Medical School and the Center for the Study of Emerging and Re-emerging Pathogens, in Houston.

4. Jens Lundgren, MD, from Rigshospitalet and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, will present on the early initiation of antiretroviral in asymptomatic, newly diagnosed patients. Dr. Lundgren will discuss how patients who have HIV can halve the risk for progression to AIDS.

5. The American Society for Microbiology will live-stream the interviews with researchers.
